We conduct informational laser vision correction seminars about once a month. Dr. Mandava presents a refractive surgery overview followed by a question and answer session. LASIK patients from our practice will be present to answer questions about their experiences. Refreshments are served. Seminars begin at 7:00 PM and last about 90 minutes. Seminars are offered every month.

Refractive Surgery Consultation

We encourage you to learn all you can about laser vision correction so that you can decide whether it is for you. A refractive consultation is a brief, no-fee visit to learn whether you are a candidate for laser vision correction and to learn about the procedures. You will receive educational materials, watch a video about laser vision correction, and discuss the procedures with Dr. Mandava. We will provide references of patients similar in prescription and age to you. You may wear your contact lenses, but bring your glasses or prescription to this consultation. If you have been to a laser vision correction seminar or are very familiar with the procedures, you do not need to schedule a consultation.

Refractive Surgery Evaluation

A comprehensive refractive evaluation is required before undergoing laser vision correction. This visit will take about 60 to 90 minutes. You need to discontinue contact lens wear before this visit as follows:

  • soft contact lenses for 2 weeks
  • extended wear contact lenses (that you sleep in) for at least 3 weeks
  • rigid gas permeable lenses for 2 weeks, plus an additional week for each decade of RGP wear

You will have a full eye examination, including a pressure check and dilation of your pupils. A special test called computerized corneal topography will be done to screen for certain corneal disorders. Your prescription for glasses ("refraction") will be checked in a variety of ways, including with a computer-automated refractor, to ensure an exact refraction. Finally, we will decide which treatment is best for you. There is a fee for a comprehensive refractive evaluation which will be subtracted from the cost of the laser procedure.
