Before the day of the procedure
1. Discontinue contact lens wear as follows, or as directed by Dr.Mandava.
- Soft contact lenses – 2 weeks.
- Extended wear contact lenses – at least two weeks, or as directed by doctor.
- Rigid gas permeable lenses – at least two weeks, plus a week for every decade of hard or rigid gas permeable contact lens wear. (e.g. 30 years of wear = 5 weeks discontinuation.).
2. We recommend that you arrange to bring a companion/driver to your procedure.
3. Use any drops or treatment that the doctor may prescribe in select cases.
4. Arrange for payment or financing before the day of the procedure.
On the day of the procedure
1. Remove all traces of mascara, eyeliner, and other eye make-up.
2. Do not wear perfume or cologne.
3. There are no diet restrictions.
4. Take your regular medications.
At Fairfield County Laser Center
1. We will explain the entire procedure and answer any remaining questions.
2. Consent forms and payment will be completed.
3. A low dose sedative may be given if required.
Inside the laser suite
1. You will be introduced to the sound of the laser (a rapid clicking sound).
2. Anesthetic drops will be instilled to completely numb your cornea.
3. You will be in a relaxed, awake state.
4. We will explain each step and what to expect so that there are no surprises.
5. A simple device to keep your eyelids open will be painlessly placed.
6. You will be instructed to watch a red, flashing light.
7. The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes per eye.
After the procedure
1. More eye drops will be instilled.
2. For PRK, a bandage contact lens will be placed.
3. For LASIK, a clear eye shield will be placed.
4. A post-operative kit and instructions will be given.
5. An appointment for the next day will be scheduled. Arrange for transportation.
