Preparing for your CK Procedure:
Before the day of the procedure
1. Discontinue contact lens wear as follows, or as directed by Dr.Mandava:
2. Soft contact lenses – at least one week
3. Extended wear contact lenses – at least two weeks
4. Rigid gas permeable lenses – at least two weeks, plus a week for every decade of hard or rigid gas permeable contact lens wear (e.g. 30 years of wear = 5 weeks discontinuation.)
5. We recommend that you arrange to bring a companion/driver to your procedure.
6. Use any drops or treatment that the doctor may prescribe in select cases.
7. Arrange for payment or financing before the day of the procedure.
On the day of the procedure
1. Remove all traces of mascara, eyeliner, and other eye make-up.
2. Do not wear perfume or cologne.
3. Eat your regular meals.
4. Take your regular medications.
At Fairfield County Laser Center
1. We will explain the entire procedure and answer any remaining questions.
2. Consent forms and payment will be completed.
3. A low dose sedative may be given if required.
Inside the procedure room
1. Anesthetic drops will be instilled to completely numb your cornea.
2. You will be in a relaxed, awake state.
3. We will explain each step and what to expect so that there are no surprises.
4. A simple device to keep your eyelids open will be painlessly placed.
5. You will be instructed to watch a red, flashing light.
6. The entire procedure takes less than 10 minutes per eye.
7. You may feel slight pressure, but no pain.
After the procedure
1. You will rest in the office for 10 – 20 minutes.
2. You can return to your normal activities the following day.
3. You may have 1 - 2 days of foreign body sensation.
4. You may not wear eye makeup for 2 days and no swimming or hot tubs for 2 weeks.
5. A post-operative kit and instructions will be given.
