After Cataract Surgery

Start eye drops when you arrive home, dinner, bed and following morning and then follow regimen below:

EYE DROPS:

Weeks 1-2

1. Vigamox (or Zymar or Zymaxid) - 4 times per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner and bed) to complete one week then stop
2. Xibrom (or Awvail or Nevanac) - 2 times per day (breakfast and bed)
3. Prednisolone Acetate 1% - 4 times per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner and bed)

Weeks 3-4

1. Xibrom - 2 times per day until you use both bottles then stop***
2. Prednisolone Acetate 1% - 2 times per day then stop

*** If you had a premium or toric lens, have certain conditions such as diabetes or macular degeneration, Dr Mandava will advise you will continue Xibrom twice per day for six weeks from the date of your surgery.

If unsure whether a drop entered your eye, place another one. The order of the three drops is not important. Do not use these drops in the other eye, but continue any previous medications as per your normal routine.

ACTIVITY:

• Dr. Mandava will advise you when you can resume driving at your first post-op visit.
• Sleep with the shield taped securely for 5 days.
• You may resume eye makeup if you wish after 5 days.
• Take precautions to prevent anything from striking your eye.
• Sunglasses are recommended for outdoors.
• We will change your prescription in about one month. Please bring any old glasses with you at that appointment.
• In the meantime, you may wear your current glasses if they help. Even though the correction is not optimal for the new eye, there will be no harm.
• Some foreign body sensation is a common side effect that will fade over a few months. Use artificial tears (Systane, Refresh, Theratears, Blink or Genteal ) 2-6 times per day as needed.
• Some peripheral shadows or distortions are normal and usually fade over the next few months. Please report worsening symptoms.
• You may resume your normal diet.
