What can I expect at the refractive consultation and evaluation?
A refractive consultation is a brief, no-fee visit to learn whether you are a candidate for laser vision correction and to learn about the procedures. You will receive educational materials, watch a video about laser vision correction, and discuss the procedures with Dr. Mandava. If you have been to a laser vision correction seminar or are very familiar with the procedures, you may skip this visit.
A comprehensive refractive evaluation is required if you are interested in having laser vision correction. This visit will take about 90 minutes and can be scheduled the same day as the refractive consultation only if you have discontinued contact lens wear. We will advise you as to how long to discontinue your lenses when you schedule your evaluation appointment. You will have a full eye examination, including dilation of your pupils, and some specialized tests, such as corneal topography, Pentacam, and custom wavefront analysis. Your prescription for glasses (refraction) will be checked in a variety of ways, including a computer-automated refractor, to ensure an exact refraction. Finally, we will decide which treatment is best for you. There is a nominal fee for a comprehensive refractive evaluation, which will be subtracted from the cost of the laser procedure if you decide to proceed with the treatment. |
